There are a wide range of motorcycle achievements in the Guinness Book of World Records. Of those, we wanted to highlight some of the more awesome feats you may not have heard about.
In Sweden, Tom Wiberg built a mini motorcycle that weighs in at just under 2.5 lbs. This tiny device was capable of going roughly 1.24 mph, which is exactly how fast the motorcycle enthusiast that invented it managed to go while riding it back in 2003.
Other specs are listed below.
- Front wheel: 0.62 inches
- Rear wheel: 0.86 inches
- Wheelbase: 3.14 inches
- Seat height: 2.55 inches
- Engine: 0.3 hp
During the Guinness World Record attempt the micro motorcycle was rode almost 33 ft.
Not Just Any Wheelie
In case you are not familiar, a wheelie is when a motorcycle enthusiast pops the front wheel off of the ground and continues to ride the bike. As impressive as that is on its own, Enda Wright wanted to do something a bit more dangerous. The handlebar wheelie.
To accomplish this, Wright practiced the one-wheel stunt over and over again until the motorcycle enthusiast was able to maintain the position while being under the handlebar.
Then, in 2006, Wright performed the maneuver, sped up the motorcycle to 108 mph, and set a Guinness World Record for fastest handlebar wheelie.
Look, No Hands!
Riding a motorcycle without using your hands is dangerous for multiple reasons. Despite this, Marcello Sarandrea did just that for roughly 138 miles back in 2015. The Guinness World Record attempt was performed in Italy riding a Yamaha Tricker 250, and took 3 hours and 10 minutes to complete.
Do Not Play With Fire
Flame is not something to take lightly as it can cause severe burns, major property damage, and can be lethal. That said, there is a Guinness World Record for the longest motorcycle ride through a tunnel of fire.
This noteworthy feat was accomplished by Enrico Schoeman and André De Kock via a motorcycle with a sidecar. Conducted in 2014, the duo rode 395 feet and 0.15 inches through a tunnel engulfed in flames.
Aim For Your Dreams
To date, there are quite a few recorded gold medalist winners from the Summer X Games. However, one of the most noteworthy winners is Chris Ridgway. Riding a 2009 Suzuki RMZ450F, Ridgway got gold in 2009 at the X Games, and was the first amputee to do so.
Motorcyclists usually ride alone or have a few passengers with them. Traditionally, riding with passengers is achieved by either sharing the motorcycle seat or via a sidecar. However, when the ASC Tornadoes Motorcycle Team in India set out to break a world record, they ignored the status quo altogether.
Instead, they found a motorcycle capable of handling excessive weight and built a sturdy platform around it. Then, on the day of the attempt, the team managed to fit 58 people onto it, and after they got it moving, the ASC Tornadoes Motorcycle Team secured their place in the Guinness World Records.
