Jeep is Getting Into the Electric Bike Business

Buying a brand new electric automobile is expensive. To add insult to injury, even if a driver does purchase an EV motorized vehicle, the task of recharging the device away from home is borderline impossible in some areas.

As a result, consumers are seeking alternative ways to go electric and bypass recharging issues. Of the solutions available, ebikes are the most popular. To capitalize on this market change, vehicle manufacturers are exploring ways to partake in the electric revolution. The latest company to take on this challenge is Jeep.

All Terrain Vehicle – Bike Form

Jeep, automobile manufacturer, is known for making rugged sports utility vehicles capable of going off-road. To compress these well-developed capabilities into a two-wheeled device, Jeep teamed up with QuietKat, an electric bicycle manufacturer.

Together, the collaborators were able to create a new e bike, dubbed the All-New Jeep® Gladiator. To do the new electric bike justice, this promotional video was launched on Youtube.

The short clip features a cyclist riding the aforementioned electric mountain bicycle on a hill.

While climbing the slope, there does not appear to be any undue pedal pressure and the wheels stay in motion throughout the journey. Once the cyclist reaches the top, the rider traverses an area littered with rocks without using the pedals, then heads down the other side.

Judging by the cyclist’s pedaling effort, control, and smooth ride it appears the new electric bicycle may be worth checking out. However, since looks can be deceiving, here are the specs of the new electric bicycle.

  • 750 watt mid-drive motor from the top tier manufacturer known as Bafang
  • Motor offers peak output of 150 watts
  • 48 volt battery
  • Capable of covering between 30 and 60 miles per charge
  • Front and rear air suspension from RockHox Monarch RL
  • Hydraulic brakes
  • 118 ft per lb torque
  • Almost 5 inch fat tires
  • 10-speed
  • Can handle up to 300 lbs
  • Controller display on handle
  • Reportedly drives well on slick surfaces, such as sand and snow
  • 17” and 19” models to suit different heights
  • Seat upgrade available for $300

Needless to say, the electric mountain bike has a lot going for it. In addition to being an all terrain vehicle, the All-New Jeep® Gladiator can be operated in almost any weather condition thanks to the equipped fat tires.

To aptly completement the powerful ride, Jeep took things one step further by utilizing name brand equipement. As a result, the Gladiator appears to be capable of providing the energy and traction support needed to make mountain bike riding a smooth experience.

That said, there are a few negatives worth mentioning.

Since the Gladiator is 76 lbs, the massive beast is going to be a hassle to transport and operate if the battery dies. Cycling enthusiasts that can handle the excessive girth can pre-order the ebike here for roughly $6,000. Those able to submit their purchase request in a timely manner may be able to ride the All-New Jeep® Gladiator as early as September of this year.
