Ask anyone to describe an electric bicycle and they will describe a thin device with two wheels. What they will not describe, however, is a four-wheeled ride enclosed in a weather resistant fabric. And this distinction is likely to not change anytime soon.

Unless an engineer in Sweden makes their invention commonplace.

An Alternative Vehicle

Mikael Kjellman, design engineer, expanded the e bike concept to address common complaints people have about biking. Dubbed the PodRide, this four-wheeled ebike essentially looks like a small car, thanks to the exterior snap-on fabric.

Kjellman invented the PodRide as a way to keep on cycling regardless of the climate. Which says a lot considering how harsh the winter weather is in Sweden. Thanks to the engineer’s hard work, the novel device seems capable of becoming a year round vehicle.

See, unlike regular vehicles and many of the electric bikes for sale online, the PodRide essentially has it all. Or, at least, the best of both worlds when it comes to short-distance travel.

  • Has an electric motor
  • Can use to exercise
  • Keeps warm in the winter
  • Viable on both roads and bike trails
  • Good for the environment
  • Comfy seat
  • No driver’s license or insurance required
  • Waterproof
  • Suspension
  • Trunk
  • Hitch for trailer
  • Heated Windshield
  • Wipers
  • Low cost to operate

The PodRide is on par size wise with small vehicles, which makes riding on the road a bit safer. But, the device is not so wide that it cannot be rode on bike trails. Needless to say, having this type of versatility opens up a plethora of commuting options.

That said, being designated as a commuter electric bike does close off other potential uses for the device, such as mountain biking. Therefore, if you are in the market for an electric mountain bike, the PodRide is probably not for you. In addition, the four-wheeled device is not a folding electric bike, so plan on parking it outdoors, akin to any other vehicle.

Speaking of parking, Kjellman designed the roof and seat to be about the same height as those in a small car. So if you do opt to park your ride in a parking lot, people in larger vehicles should have no issue seeing you or the vehicle.

The PodRide is set to debut commercially this year for about $2,800.

Better Hybrid Electric Bikes

Although this device is not likely to be on anyone’s best electric bikes 2020 list, the novel concept is definitely worth talking about. But unless you are specifically in need of a winter ready mens electric bike, the PodRide is likely to remain a mere conversation piece.

So, if you are looking for a folding electric bicycle or cool electric bikes for sale in Charleston, South Carolina, additional research into the market will be needed. But to save you some time, we recommend checking out Bintelli bikes. They offer a wide range of portable electric bikes via their e bike shop, including but not limited to foldable electric bicycles.
